So the system failed Graeme Burton.

So saith a lady friend of his on the Herald website. This lady, who has known Burton since age 3 believes that the system could have done more to integrate this person into society. Apparently Burton wanted to give it "A really good try" after he got out of prison. he certainly did that didnt he ? One dead & how many wounded & threatened?

To my mind, the only way that society has failed him is in the placement of the shot that brought him down. All credit to the police in this matter. I am certain that there are countries not too far away from here that would have aimed somewhat higher & a lot more fatally than the leg.

The only thing wrong with fatally shooting him on the spot is that some policeman has to live with the fact that the guy next to him got the kill shot in first.

Really, it comes down to attitude - the one that allowed him to think his behaviour, drug taking, scare tactics, wannabe McGyver shit, that all of that was normal and he could choose to do those things if he wanted. What he was missing was that good old 'consequence' - cause and effect.

Can't for the life of me see why ACC should pay a cent to him. A piece of scum lived to see another day with the loss of only one limb. Shame about the innocent man he killed who lost his life by being in the wrong palce at the wrong time.

We need capital punishment back, yes it might occasionally cost the life of an Arthur Alan Thomas, but it would save one hell of a lot of innocent people being killed by repeat murderers who are given Life but only serve a fraction of the sentence. Surely we have a free island somewhere (Enderby springs to mind) where scum like this can be sent to fend for themselves, or die in the snow like the animals they are?

Im disgusted.

In the words of Forrest Gump - "and that's all I have to say about that".
